Happy, happy, joy, joy!

June 28th, 2010

Remember when I said “There’s no love…” in one of my previous blogs. Well that’s all changed!

I have met who could only be the best person in the world and means everything to me.

Kevin I love you so much, you mean everything to me and I want to be with you forever and ever.

On Strike…

June 8th, 2010

…well, not really strike, more like holiday.

Wednesday morning (BST) may be my last tweet until Monday evening. If you are not sure why this may be, let me shed some light on the answer.

I’m going to Download Festival 2010! (If you would like to know more about Download fest., please click HERE). Possibly the UK’s biggest rock festival and this year is their 30th anniversary!

So unless I find a really cheap iPhone charger that runs off solar or AA, I’m not tweeting during the festival.

BP Oil Leak

June 6th, 2010

Seeing as oil floats to the top of water, why haven’t they just put a big up-side-down funnel on top of where the oil is leaking and suck it all away?

It does make you think that maybe the simplest ideas must be the hardest for them to do.

Also They’ve been oil drilling for years and they f*ck it up now? And they f*ck it up so epically. That doesn’t make sense.

If you haven’t seen this already, you can view a live video feed from their ROV at www.sno.ms/bpolcam

Monies

March 19th, 2010

Right, things seem to be going swimmingly for me at the moment and I’m making the most of every bit of it. And I’m sharing the details with you.

My phone bill has got cheaper, it’s now £14 per month for 300 minutes, unlimited internet, unlimited text messages and insurance on my iPhone 3GS.

My car insurance has dropped from a stupid £2500 per year to just £1100 per year. It’s still a bloody lot but the car was only £350 and its a 1.6 liter injection.

At work I’m soon to be getting a bonus for this month which should be somewhere between £500 and £1000.

At the end of this month I’m to be getting a cheque for some amount for a claim I put in for a car accident I had back in November. The crash that nearly killed me, a random person driving stupidly, he owes me a pair of shoes. I’m getting side tracked….

I may be upgrading my two 19 inch LG (16:10 florescent) monitors to two 24 inch Acer (16:9 LED) monitors.

I may be changing my car but more on that another time.

Now to the things that are a bit crappy in my life:

There’s no love… Seriously, there is no one in my life and I really want there to be. It’s getting on my nerves! Most of my friends have girlfriends or boyfriends, the few who don’t I’m getting closer with, it’s like we have a club, “The Single Peoples Club”, it’s really lame, we go out for fast food and then see a film or we stay in and browse YouTube. It’s not that bad, but I just wish, instead of sitting around not doing much, I could be cuddling close to someone and not doing much, that would be better.

Oh dear, it sounds like I’m desperate! Let’s just say, if I become “un-single” my Twitter followers will be the first to hear about it, I’ll be spamming like theres no tomorrow!

Anyhoo…

Another crappy thing in my life is the fact that I’m ill. I have some cold/flu/throat/chest infection thing. It’s gross, so I’m going to go into all the details.

I cough up a green-ish flem, when I cough I’m almost sick. My sinuses are messed so I can’t breath very well and it’s affected my ears, so I can’t hear very well and my balance is a bit off.

Okay, time to take some meds and go to sleep. Oh, I just watched a new film called Bounty Hunter, I give it three out of ten.

Goodnight all.

And now I’m back…

March 9th, 2010

Internet details came through today for the new place, now I’m back online. I don’t really have much to say, my Twitter has all the details over the last 3 weeks but I’ll refresh in greater detail for those interested.

I’m in a new house with my dad, a little bungalow in Corfe Mullen. It’s got a massive front and back garden. A huge drive for our two cars, in which I may have to buy another one. Also there is faster internet here! It’s gone up from 2.4Mbps to 7.4Mbps. Still no cable though…

My car insurance has more than halved in price and my phone bill has done the same but got better!

At the moment, things are looking good for me, apart from a really bad chest or throat infection or what ever I have.

The UI of Steam‘s new beta release looks super sweet!

I haven’t really got much else to say right now, more later…

And now I’m offlne.

February 21st, 2010

Right my Internet is now down so flasheee.ath.cx will be down for around two weeks. Also I won’t be on deviantART for those two weeks either. all I have is my phone to keep up with Twitter, Facebook and my emails. So to cut a long story short. I’ll be back in full force in two weeks time.

Small and fast is better [distracted]

January 31st, 2010

First, get your mind out the gutter!

I’ve been looking for reasons for people to use my URL shortening service, sno.ms, instead of other more popular services.

I have a reason: it’s small and fast.

Looking at size information, for other sites and my own, here is what I have:

tinyurl.com bit.ly sno.ms
total average
size (in bytes)
40555 250396 33904
total average
size (in KB) when
downloaded
191 249 119
Download time
in seconds at 128K
3.28 22.28 5.27
Unique objects 4 35 16

Looking at the above table, bit.ly is by far the slowest, sno.ms is the smallest, and tinyurl is the fastest and has less objects.

The images on my site are very small .gif images at a 16bit (might be 32bit but I’ll make it 16bit) size, meaning that they will load quicker than .jpg and .png that are used a lot more often these days.

[begin distraction]

I’ll be honest with you, the above was written at 18:45 and it’s now 22:37. I had some dinner, watched some Family Guy, played some Half life 2: Episode 2 and now I’ve lost my train of thought. Seriously, I have no idea what all the above crap is about and I couldn’t really care that much at this time of night sooooo.. Yeah….

Goodnight everybody!

Hand Washing

January 31st, 2010

So it’s late, I have work in 9 hours and I only realized like 30 minutes ago I haven’t got a clean Maplin t-shirt. Now we have no washing machine and usually resort to taking 2 big bags of clothes to the local laundrette.

So being this late I had no choice but to hand wash in the sink. There’s a first for everything I guess.

On another subject, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is on BBC Two right now.

sno.ms and biggest fear.

January 30th, 2010

So I finished the little project I called “Project Snoms”, it can be found at http://sno.ms , and it’s to shorten (or mask) long URL’s for things such as blogs, Twitter tweets, FaceBook statuses etc.

It works really well, and some people have been using it which is alright, but I want loads of people to be using it, sounds kinda vain-ish that I want loads of people to be using my thing when there are others such as goo.gl or tinyurl.com or bit.ly and so on. But for local people to use a local product would be cool. Like tinyurl.com is between Lelystad and Zwolle in Nederland. And bit.ly is in Colorado, not exactly local. Why don’t people use local things anymore, it’s not like mine is harder to use or anything. Right this is turning into a rant and I’ve had a pretty good day so let’s not ruin it.

On another topic, has anyone got a really big fear, mine is really lame so here goes:

My biggest fear is memory loss, either that of my own memory inside my head or that of my computer. Seriously, I have all my passwords and things backed up on a USB stick (so it can’t be access remotely) and stored in a safe which I have a key for on my massive bunch of keys. This is just in case I have a “mind blank” or something worst in which I forget usernames, logins, passwords, pin numbers etc.

Memory loss of my computer leads to an almost obsessive (thinking about it that last part is pretty obsessive) behavior. I will back things up everywhere. I have 1 server for personal storage which has 2x 1TB drives and I save stuff to both of them (didn’t want to do a RAID as that could risk losing the data) and I also save stuff to my main computer and to CD/DVD discs just as a “you never know all 3 drives could fail on me”. I can never shut down or hibernate or standby a machine unless I have saved everything and closed all programs to make sure nothing is left unsaved.

Another thing I do, when writing things like this for my blog I will write it into notepad and keep saving it before doing it on the WordPress editor just in case the browser crashes and the auto save on WordPress didn’t work for some reason.

To a lot (or maybe all) of you, you maybe thinking I have issues, yeah I might do.

I want to hear what your biggest fear is as I’ve run out of interesting things to read and you comment will be a top up.

Comment below unless you’re reading this on deviantART in which I ask for you to go to my blog and comment.

Thanks for reading.

URL shortener

January 21st, 2010

I’m working on another project, a URL shortener.

Everyone who does a lot of internet or blogging work will know of www.bit.ly (usually just known as “bitly”) and tinyurl.com etc. Well I’m going to make my own.

Working on the code for the public to use it. It will not require a log in or anything like that, just simple URL shortening.

Coming soon…
